Diamond Derby - Daily Rider Open Class Challenge
Riders will compete against the course in 20-minute heats, dodging obstacles and collecting as many laps and diamonds as they can! The field will be open to 200 riders. Prizes will be awarded to the top 10 women, men and children competing!
Diamond Derby Team Competition - (4 riders)
High-spirited relay rounds will pit registered teams against one another in all-out sprints for swag and glory! Teams will compete head-to-head with top teams advancing to the finals. Maximum field is twelve teams of four riders. In addition to top placement, prizes will be awarded for the most creative race kits!
Chris Soda 4X Comps
Four-X Comps pits the hard-core amateurs and the wily vets against the cycling elite in head-to-head four-lap heats around the Gran Premio course. Top finishers in each 4-lap heat will continue to advance until the grand finale! Daredevils and speed demons need apply! Maximum participants in this event are 120 riders.
D&Q River Ride and the Diamond Derby Ball
The River Ride is D&Q’s first winter ride and will take participants out of DC and into Crystal City. The look is urban- functional, contemporary and edgy. If you bike in style every time you get around the city, show us how you do it during our river ride. Participation in the River Ride and entrance to the Diamond Derby Party are both free. Diamond Derby Sponsorship Opportunities
Presenting Sponsor- Race is officially named “The Crystal City Diamond Derby presented by Sponsor Name”. Our online branding will always include full sponsor name as will all upcoming printed materials. Race announcer will refer to event by official name the majority of the time, make references to the sponsor, their support of the event, and the sponsors product(s). One race, selected by the promoter’s discretion, will be named for a product or product line of the sponsor’s selection. $6000. cash and in kind
Lounge Sponsor- Title sponsorship of the Diamond Derby Lounge. All upcoming printed materials, our online branding and lounge signage will read “Sponsor Name Diamond Derby Lounge”. Bike Polo Tournament Sponsor- Title sponsorship of the bike polo event. Signage on bike polo court. Online and printed announcements of bike polo event will read with official name “Sponsor Name DC Bike Polo Invitational Tournament”. Race announcer will refer to event by official name the majority of the time, make references to the sponsor, their support of the event, and the sponsors product(s). $1500.
Individual Event Sponsor- Naming Sponsorship of one race or event at the Crystal City Diamond Derby. Sponsor name will become part of the official name of the event, as it is used in upcoming printed materials and our online references. Race announcer will refer to event by official name the majority of the time, make references to the sponsor, their support of the event, and the sponsors product(s). Available events may include the kids event, open course time (community ride), the Open Class Race, the Team Competition, the Four-X Race and the Diamond Derby Ball. $1000.
Supporting Sponsor- Sponsor name will be used to name a specific portion of the race course and a diamond collection site as chosen at the promoter’s discretion. Sponsor’s banner will be prominently displayed on this part of the course. Race announcer will use the sponsor name in reference to this section of the course the majority of the time, make references to the sponsor, their support of the event, and the sponsors product(s). $500.
BIKE POLO EXHIBITIONS ALL AFTERNOON
TOURNAMENT PLAY 3:30-4:30 PM
DC Bike Polo ( http://www.dcbikepolo.com/ )will be holding a bicycle polo exhibition and a tournament at the inaugural Crystal City Diamond Derby on March 10, 2012 (www.diamond-derby.com) The event at 1850 Crystal Drive in Arlington, Virginia will be a spectacle of bicycle events and races to be viewed from an art lounge designed and built by James Kerns of Corehaus DC.
The bike polo exhibition play will begin at 1:00pm and will end with tournament play from 3:30-4:30 pm, when a final match will determine the tournament winner. During the exhibition hours spectators will be invited to try their hand at the game. DC Bike Polo will supply mallets, participants must have their own bicycles and helmets.

Crystal City, VA — The Crystal City Business Improvement District, in association with Vornado/Charles E. Smith,Dandies & Quaintrelles (D&Q) and Sciathan Productions, is proud to announce the inaugural ‘Crystal City Diamond Derby,’ taking place on Saturday, March 10, 2012 with registration opening in early 2012. The Crystal City Diamond Derby will transform a Crystal City parking garage into an urban cycling arena complete with a glamorous lounge, spectator viewing areas, street art, and an edgy, glitzy, one-of-a-kind experience.
Spectators will be surrounded by the live race as professional bicycle racers, bicycle messengers and amateur cyclists alike glide through the course, collecting diamond-shaped packages with the goal of winning awards and prize money. The Diamond Lounge will be the hub of spectator activity, featuring a big screen displaying the on-course action, a full bar and live DJs. Cyclists and spectators can also get a breath of fresh air as they head outdoors for a midway featuring food, vendors and a wide-open sprint lane for the cyclists where individual speeds will be measured and race laps counted.
The less competitive and more couture cyclist can grab their derby hats and don their vests for the Crystal City Diamond Derby’s fashion themed social ride, the signature of other D&Q events including the Seersucker Social and the Tweed Ride.
